Getting to Sintra
Sintra is a short journey from Lisbon by train, car or our coaches.
Fly into Lisbon (LIS). Sintra is roughly 35–45 minutes away by car.
Trains run from Lisbon's Rossio station to Sintra in about 40 minutes.
On Saturday, coaches leave Marquês de Pombal in Lisbon at 16:15 and return at 01:30.
Palácio de Seteais or Lawrence's Hotel in Sintra, or a Lisbon hotel for city evenings.
Before you arrive
Small things that will make the weekend easier.
The old town's lanes are narrow and steep; taxis and our coaches are easier than driving.
Sintra is misty and cooler than Lisbon. Bring a wrap for after dark.
The ceremony is in Portuguese and English.
Children are welcome at the welcome dinner and farewell lunch; Saturday evening is adults-only.
Formal, in shades of evening
Long dresses, light suits, and any blue from cornflower to midnight.
Formal. Long dresses, light suits, and any blue from cornflower to midnight.
Smart casual.
Relaxed, with sunglasses.
Your presence is the gift
If you would like to give something, we are dreaming of the lakes of the Azores.
For our honeymoon we are flying to São Miguel in the Azores to walk the rim above the blue and green lakes of Sete Cidades and see the hydrangeas in bloom. A contribution to a boat day, a hot-spring evening or a long dinner would be a joy.
Your company is more than enough.
A little more detail
Everything guests often ask before a destination wedding.
How early should we arrive in Sintra?
Friday afternoon is ideal, so you can join the welcome dinner and explore on Saturday morning.
Do we need a car?
No. Trains, taxis and our coaches cover everything.
Can we visit Pena Palace while we're there?
Yes, but book timed tickets online in advance; Saturday morning works well.
What if it rains?
The ceremony moves into the palace salons; dinner is under cover.
Is it accessible?
The gardens have gravel paths; tell us what would help and we'll arrange it.
Lisbon, and everything since
A few favourite moments from the city where we met.
